Saint-Petersburg Review

Saint Petersburg  is one of the largest cities in the Russian Federation. Sometimes it's called the second capital of Russia (more exactly, the northern capital). It's situated on the Neva River (more about geographical position of Russia you can see on maps of Russia).

The city had other names in past such as Petrograd and Leningrad.

Saint-Petersburg reminds a European city most of all other Russian cities.

The area of Saint Petersburg city is about 610 square km.

Saint Petersburg has a humid continental climate (more about weather in Russia), but summers are quite cool because of the moderating impact of the Baltic Sea. Summers are rather short, winters are long and cold, but with frequent warm periods.

If you travel Russia, you'd better pay attention to St. Petersburg, because it's one of Russian financial and industrial centers, and also an important trade gateway that specializes in different spheres of industry (e.g. gas-oil trade, IT technology, machinery, wholesale and retail trade, electronics publishing and so on ).

The city has more than 300-year history (if you're interested in Russian history, go to History of Russia).

Travel Russia - and you will see that this country is famous for its palaces, museums, theaters and so on (more information at Sightseeings and Attractions of Russia). Saint Petersburg isn't an exception. For instance, the Summer Palace is the earliest one. The Kikin Hall, the Menshikov Palace, the baroque Winter Palace (a huge stately building with over 550 rooms, now housing the Hermitage Museum that is one of the world's biggest and richest collections of art.), the Sheremetev house, the Mariinsky Palace, and the Beloselsky-Belozersky Palace and so on - it's only a minor part of what Saint-Petersburg can suggest to visit.

St. Petersburg has always been known for rich cultural life. The city has more than 45 theaters. The theater that is well-known around the world is Mariinsky Theater. Travel Russia and you won't regret it.

Enjoy yourself while travel Russia!
